Consumed W/ So Much Anger =\

Did you guys see Seung's manifesto?  So much anger.  I hate how the analysts assume that it was all narcissistic and mindless rant from a psychopath.  I think all of them have it all wrong.  Obviously this guy was a very sick individual, but the media could never understand the pleight and struggle that is unique to asian immigrant children, a huge component that may contain the answer of "why"?  I think somewhere early in his life he was bullied at school.  Young asian americans have to endure so much pressure from their parents as well as endure teasing and bullying from immature kids.  We all respond and overcome differently.  Most of us were thankfully mentally rugged enough never to be pushed over the edge.  When I was a freshman in highschool, there was a guy that used to be my friend in middle school.  Suddenly he became my worst enemy.  Everyday it was a constant teasing about being asian.  The incessant jokes about blinding me with dental floss, practical jokes, making the chinky eyes, the whole gambit...every single day!  When I got upset, everyone around me would say, chill out man, he's only joking and made me feel like I was the bad guy.  I was isolated and friendless.  I had so much pent up anger towards him and couldn't understand why he insisted on making my life miserable.  Thank God his family moved after my freshman year.  The following year I was free to make good friends ( ironically the same friends the bully left behind when he moved), established a sense of belonging, even made a girlfriend and enjoyed the rest of my highschool years.  One of his friends even told me, "Gee Edward, we never knew how cool you were."  I don't know what would have happened to me if that guy stayed.  If there's one thing we can learn from this tragedy, let it be this.  There is a cause and effect to everything we do.  There are people that, however unintentional, effect peoples lives in negative ways.  Let's learn to be active in being positive in peoples lives, learning to encourage and build people up.  Jesus saw it so important that when the pharisees asked him what the most important commandment was, Jesus replied with not only one, but two answers:

" 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[b] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself."

It's not enough just to love God, but we are instructed to love others as well.  Let's start doing this today and start making a difference in peoples lives before it's too late.

Korean Community Backlash?

As a Korean American male, I too am anxious of how society will view us as a whole from this moment forward.  Will there be retaliation?  Backlash?  We have already been demasculinized and branded by the media as socially awkward creatures even before this whole tragedy took place.  This society only embraces and enjoys watching the portrayal of Asian American males as William Hung or Bobby Kim.  This incident will only add to the negative stereotypes.  Only time will tell...

Virginia Tech Tragedy

Hi everyone, I know I haven't kept up with my Xanga for awhile.  With the recent tragedy, I wanted a place to be able to express my thoughts about the incident on the Virginia Tech campus.  I think this lone gunman massacre, for being the worst in U.S. history, hits closer to home for alot of us because the killer was Korean.  Although I was born here, I have noticed growing up that many 1.5 generation Koreans that come to the U.S. at critical ages in their childhood development tend to suffer from mental illness in varying degrees.  These illnesses that may have developed from undue stress created from moving to a new country tend to manifest themselves when they reach college age.  Diagnosis have ranged from mental breakdowns, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, the whole gambit.  When I say critical age, I am referring to preadolescence, where the person is in between the malleable mental development of a child and the more concrete mental development of a teenager.  As part of the Korean community, we have to look further into the effects of immigration and childhood development.

For those that weren't aware, an ex-classmate had posted online two plays written by the killer Seung Cho.  They were posted here.  I'd like to hear your thoughts on the plays.

http://newsbloggers.aol.com/2007/04/17/cho-seung-huis-plays/

My comments about the distubing plays:

Notice how both plays have alot to do with injustice, someone being blamed for something that wasn't their fault.  McBeef being accused of murder, abuse and pedophilia in the first play and the kids being accused of stealing the jackpot in the second.  Very interesting.  It may indicate Seung's own feeling of injustice by certain people in his life.  When you're being accused and blamed, it makes you feel powerless and angry.  Seung may have had this overwhelming sense of powerlessness and anger that may have driven him over the edge.  But where did this stem from?  If we can try to understand his motives, it may help prevent further tragedies like this from happening.  May God Bless the families of the victims.

Happy Thanksgiving

Hello everyone, I know I haven't posted in awhile.  I am in Los Angeles spending time with family as much as possible.  My mom goes in for another round of chemo in the hospital today.  She hasn't eaten in days because of the nausea the treatment causes.  I hope she will be well enough to go home and spend time with us for Turkey Day. Thank you everyone for keeping us in your prayers.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone and God Bless!

Please I Need Your Prayers!

Hi everyone.  The last time I was in L.A., through a course of unfortunate events we discovered that my mom has a large 14x10x12 centimeter mass around her pelvis.  My sister was able to get her surgery date bumped up to tomorrow.  I was wondering if those of you who read my page would be able to pray that the surgeon will be able to remove the tumor completely!  If you guys could pray around the time of the surgery which is tomorrow at 9 am PST and thereafter I would greatly appreciate it it.  Thank you guys.  God bless...
